How long have you worked in veterinary medicine?
Here for 10 years, but as a tech for 13 years
Do you have any special areas of interest or expertise?
I love to help with dentals; Prophy and Radiographs
What do you enjoy most about working in veterinary medicine?
I really do enjoy Surgery! It's fast-paced and you have to be on high alert to be able to keep that pet safe during its time here.
Personal
Tell us about the pets you share your home with.
I have a Saint Bernard named Rosie; 2 domestic longhaired black cats; Darla and Smudge. I also have a flock of chickens that I adore.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy gardening and tending to my chickens. I also have a Trike Motorcycle that I travel all over on, with my husband. We love to take trips to the Smoky Mountains as often as we can.
For Fun
What’s the most memorable or funniest animal moment you’ve had at work?
I would have to say one of my favorite memories is good old Stubby! He was a domestic shorthair that came in as a stray. He had the cards stacked against him; with horrible stomatitis amongst other things. We were able to address his stomatitis by doing an extraction of all of his teeth so that he could eat more comfortably. Well, after his procedure, a few days later, he felt so much better that he went outside and killed an adult rabbit!!! He ripped out all of his sutures in his mouth and felt great anyway. He is why I tell people with indoor/outdoor cats; to please keep them inside until heald because I do not want another Stubby situation on our hands
If you could care for any animal (real or imaginary), what/who would it be?
I really enjoy birds so I would have to say, any kind of bird of prey? They are so fascinating!
Do you have a favorite breed or species to work with, and why?
I really do enjoy working with cats in general. They are all personality! Each one has a timer and when you run out of “Kitty Minutes”, you had better have all of your things done!!! It's my job to find out how many minutes I have left and keep my Doctor safe during the entirety of whatever needs done. Delicate balance of time and efficiency.

The most memorable for me is the many (many!) cases I have seen where patients come in with a variety of severe medical concerns, and seeing them recover, blossom, and knowing the owners are able to have more time with their loved pets. Off the top of my head I can think of a few examples of parvo puppies that survived and went on to live a long healthy life, helping care for a bulldog that was burned in a barn fire, and dogs in rescue (often fostered by team members here) that were dealt a bad hand but went on to be loved and happy.

Either dinosaurs, or pygmy hippos.
