Dr. Reynolds comes to our hospital and works closely with our veterinary team to perform various orthopedic procedures in the place where you and your pets are most comfortable. This helps to keep costs down, and there is no need to travel out of town for advanced procedures.

JIMMY REYNOLDS, DVM

Dr. Jimmy Reynolds graduated from The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014 after completing his undergraduate studies with a bachelor's degree in Animal Science from The Ohio State University in 2010

Dr. Reynolds has extensive experience in both emergency and surgical services, as well as providing general veterinary care. Prior to starting On the Spot Veterinary Surgeons, Dr. Reynolds was a veterinary surgeon at a local practice, providing more than 100 orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries per year, while also providing primary and ongoing care services for pet families. Dr. Reynolds also spent several years working for two separate emergency pet hospitals in Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Reynolds' continuing education and training over the past three years has been focused entirely on orthopedic surgery, honing the skills necessary to properly perform these surgeries for his clients and patients. His passion for providing quality, affordable surgical services for pets, married with his understanding and compassion for the importance of having a trusted family vet inspired what is now On the Spot Veterinary Surgeons.

SERVICES PROVIDED

CANINE ACL/CCL INJURIES

  • TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy)

This is the gold standard correction for a torn ACL/CCL in dogs. This procedure involves the adjustment of the proximal tibia to eliminate the need for the ACL/CCL. Very exact pre-surgical radiographs (X-rays) are taken to determine the slope of the tibia (tibial plateau angle) to allow for the appropriate amount of rotation needed to eliminate tibial thrust. During surgery a TPLO-specific saw is used to make a very precise cut through the tibia, then a specialized plate and set of screws will be used to secure the bone once the correction/rotation is made. 

Recovery time for a TPLO is 8-12 weeks and requires very strict exercise restrictions during that time. During the recovery phase, the body will repair the osteotomy (cut through the tibia).  Rechecks are around 2 weeks post-op and 8 weeks post-op. The 2-week recheck is to ensure the incision is fully healed and that the patient is progressing appropriately.  Radiographs/X-rays will be taken at the 8-week recheck to determine if the surgical site has healed appropriately. Once healed the plate and screws will no longer be needed but will remain in place unless they cause an issue, which is uncommon.

LUXATING KNEECAP REPAIR

  • MEDIAL AND LATERAL LUXATING PATELLA CORRECTION

Luxating patella correction is an orthopedic procedure that repairs the dog's dislocated kneecap. A correction may be needed when the dog's kneecap (patella) has slipped out of its natural groove. Often times the dislocation may only be occasional (you may notice limping at some times, but not constantly), but may cause enough discomfort that a repair is necessary.

Several treatments and procedures are used depending on the severity of the luxated patella in the dog.
